What Do You Need to Use SwapX? Requirements Explained
Before you can start selling CS2 skins on SwapX, there are a few things you need to have in place. None of these requirements are complicated — most CS2 players already have everything set up. But if you're new to skin trading or haven't touched your Steam security settings in a while, it's worth running through the checklist.
1. A Steam Account with CS2
This one's obvious, but SwapX is built specifically for CS2 skin trading. You'll need an active Steam account that owns Counter-Strike 2 (which is free to play) and has at least some tradable items in your inventory.
Keep in mind that Steam accounts have a concept of "trade eligibility." If your account is very new or was recently flagged, there may be restrictions. In most normal cases, a standard CS2 account with a few hours of playtime is all you need.
2. Email Verification on Your Steam Account
Your Steam account needs to have a verified email address attached to it. This is a basic Steam security requirement — without it, you can't complete trades or use the Steam trading system at all.
To check: go to Steam → Account Details and look for the email section. If it's not verified, Steam will prompt you to confirm your email. It takes about a minute to complete.
3. A Steam Trade URL
Your Trade URL is a unique link that allows external platforms like SwapX to send you trade offers without needing to be on your Steam friends list. It's one of the most important requirements for using SwapX.
Where to find it:
- Open Steam and go to your profile
- Click "Inventory"
- Click "Trade Offers" (top right)
- Select "Who can send me Trade Offers?"
- Scroll down and find "Third-Party Sites" — your Trade URL is listed there
Copy this URL and paste it into your SwapX account settings. If you ever regenerate your Trade URL (for security reasons), you'll need to update it on SwapX as well.
Why it's needed: Without a valid Trade URL, SwapX cannot send you a trade offer to collect the skins you're selling. The trade simply cannot go through.
4. Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator
This is the most important security requirement. Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator is a two-factor authentication (2FA) system built into the Steam mobile app. It generates a time-sensitive confirmation code that you use to approve or deny trade offers.
Why it's required: Steam requires that any account with the Mobile Authenticator enabled must have it active for at least 7 days before trades can be confirmed through it. This waiting period is part of Valve's anti-fraud protection. Once you've had it set up for 7+ days, you'll be able to confirm trades normally.
How to set it up:
- Download the Steam mobile app on iOS or Android
- Log in to your Steam account
- Go to Steam Guard → Add Authenticator
- Follow the on-screen steps to link your phone number and activate the authenticator
- Save your recovery code somewhere safe
Once active, any trade offer you receive — including ones from SwapX — will require your confirmation through the mobile app. This is what keeps your account and inventory protected from unauthorized trades.
5. Tradable Skins in Your Inventory
This might sound obvious, but it's worth noting: the skins you want to sell must be in a tradable state. Items can become temporarily untradable for a few reasons:
- Recently purchased from the Steam Market — items bought on the Community Market have a trade lock lasting a few days
- Received via trade recently — items received from other players may have a short cooldown
- Trade locked after a game event — some items have specific restrictions applied by Valve
SwapX will show you which items in your inventory are tradable and which are currently locked, so you'll always know what you can sell right now.
Quick Checklist
Before you create your SwapX account, run through this list:
- Steam account with CS2
- Email address verified on Steam
- Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator active for 7+ days
- Trade URL copied from Steam inventory settings
- At least one tradable CS2 skin in your inventory
If you have all of the above, you're ready to go. The actual account setup on SwapX takes just a few minutes.
